Dame Fenews (pronounced VEN-oos) is the lady of Hay, subject to the king of Brycheiniog. From the ramshackle Clifford castle, she holds forth with a variety of strange customs, the most notable being her insistence that knightly visitors engage her household knights in single combat to earn a place at the high table.
She has been widowed twice, and both her sons are dead; her liege has appointed a steward to tend to the affairs of maintaining her lands. In the meantime, she waits to find her one True Love before considering marriage again.
