The only son of the late King Nentres of Garloth, Galegantis was raised by his mother Elaine as heir-apparent to the kingdom. In 512, he formed an alliance with Malahaut and prepared to take his place on the throne of Garloth, but instead met with defeat at the hands of King Arthur at Bassus River. Arthur took Garloth as his personal demesne, but also promised the prince a “suitable reward” in exchange for loyal service.
During the Roman War, Galegantis further distinguished himself. During that campaign, old Duke Chaleins caught cold and expired, leaving no heirs. Arthur elevated Galegantis to the status of Duke of Clarence in recognition of his service.
